Everyone is concerned about the increasing cost of living. Electricity is one area which sometimes seems difficult to control. The first step is to find out where electricity is being used around your home. The cost of operating your appliances and equipment is reflected in the "energy charge" portion of your bill. This is usually the largest portion of your bill. You can reduce your energy charge by lowering your electrical consumption.
Every time you turn on a light or use an appliance, the amount of electricity consumed is recorded by your electric meter in kilowatt hours (KWh). To find out how much it costs to operate an appliance, or many appliances for a month, take a look at our Home Energy Consumption List.
ATCO Electric Yukon's meter accuracy and maintenance is monitored and regulated by Measurement Canada. For more information please visit Measurement Canada.
Reading a standard energy meter is easy. Many residential meters have five dials, but some of the older models may have four. The procedure is the same for both. Each dial rotates in an opposite direction from the one beside it. As Dial One completes a full revolution, Dial Two beside it completes 1/10 of a revolution, etc. The dials are read from right to left. When the point is between two digits, the smaller number is read.
READ DIALS RIGHT TO LEFT
The actual reading is 57831.
You may also have a digital meter. Digital meters are easy to read. Simply read the meter and submit the numbers that you see in the comment section of the form.
