2025 Wildfire Response

Wildfire Season in the Yukon

Wildfires can escalate rapidly, threatening communities, homes, the environment, and ATCO Electric Yukon's electric infrastructure. We are actively monitoring wildfire threats across the Yukon and working closely with local and territorial authorities to ensure the safety of our communities, customers, and employees.

Current Wildfire Activity

Wildfires continue to affect multiple areas across the Yukon, with several classified as out of control and new fires emerging. ATCO Yukon is ready to deploy emergency response plans and teams to support local authorities and first responders. Our top priority is protecting critical infrastructure and supporting impacted communities.

Our Crisis Management and Incident Management Teams are monitoring conditions, adjusting responses, and ensuring readiness for restoration. Operational crews are reinforcing infrastructure by clearing vegetation, installing fire mesh, and implementing other fire-hardening measures.

June 20 Service Impacts and Safety Measures

As of June 20, we’ve implemented a safety setting that prevents equipment from automatically reconnecting after a fault (such as a tree contacting a power line). This proactive measure helps reduce the risk of fire ignition but may extend restoration times, as our crews must manually patrol lines before restoring service.

This safety setting was activated in the Southern Lakes Region on Friday, June 20 and remains in place.

Several service interruptions have occurred, but no permanent infrastructure damage has been reported. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we prioritize safety and work to restore service as quickly and safely as possible.
