Rate Updates

April 1, 2026: Rate Changes & Billing

Residential bills will see a noticeable increase beginning April 1, 2026, primarily because two government affordability rebates are ending at the same time that two Yukon Energy rate riders are increasing.

Here are the main contributors to the bill change:

  • End of the Winter Electrical Affordability Rebate (+3.4c/kWh)
  • End of the Affordability Rate Relief Rebate (+2.7c/kWh)
  • Increases to Yukon Energy’s Rider J (Revenue Shortfall Rider) and J1 (Temporary True-Up) with combined impact of approximately 6.3%

What You Should Know

The main reason your bill is going up in April is because the two government rebates that were lowering bills have now ended. In addition, the YUB approved increases in Yukon Energy’s Rider J and Rider J1 after finalizing the review of Yukon Energy’s 2025-27 GRA. These changes together are what’s causing the increase.

The Yukon Government rebates that helped lower electricity bills were targeted at the winter season and are scheduled to end on March 31, 2026. The Winter Electrical Affordability rebate will resume on  October 1, 2026 and will provide further support to customers according to the latest budget.

Each household will see a different increase because it depends on how much electricity you use each month. The rebates that ended applied to the first 1,000 kilowatt‑hours, so homes that use around that amount will see the biggest percentage change.
